An alcohol-free, aqueous, non-inflammable, and non-toxic hand sanitizer has been developed by a Pune-based startup Weinnovate Biosolutions that will shortly be available in the market. It’s environment friendly and gentle to the palms and is derived from silver nanoparticles.
Weinnovate Biosolutions has invented the hand sanitizer. The slow-release silver nanoparticles prolong antimicrobial activity hence obviating the need for repeated applications. Its cleared Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) approved clinical trial to its hand sanitizer and demonstrated high efficacy in killing viruses.
It has was endorsed by Centre for Augmenting War with COVID-19 Health Crisis (CAWACH) 2020 grant by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and the project has been incubated at Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Pune.

We’re sure that this invention will push India towards its ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission and make India a self-sustained nation to face such pandemics in the future. A study to evaluate the efficacy of hand sanitizer on different kinds of viruses can be currently underway, she added.
Recurrent drying up of palms because of repeated use of hand sanitizers is a challenge that people have faced throughout the COVID 19 pandemic. The startup has developed a colloidal silver solution-based hand sanitizer. The technology works on the capability of the silver nanoparticles to avoid the synthesis of viral negative-strand RNA and viral budding.
Silver nanoparticles are potent antiviral that behaves against most deadly viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Herpes simplex virus, Influenza virus, etc. Recent reports have indicated the part of Glutathione capped-Ag2S NCs that is silver nanoclusters, prevents the proliferation of coronavirus by stopping the synthesis of viral negative-strand RNA and viral budding.
The colloidal silver can help arrest COVID -19 spread by obstructing the RNA replication and surface glycoproteins.
