Efforts are around for the Indian agarbatti industry (MSME Sector) to go International. National Bamboo Mission has established an MIS (Management Information Systems) based reporting system for agarbatti manufacturing. It helps to collate the data of stick manufacturing components, access to raw material, working of their components, manufacturing capacity, advertising, etc.

With the support of this MIS module, the linkages with the MSME sector will be synergized better to empower procurement seamlessly from manufacturers and thereby fill data gaps.

All NBM States have been in the process of assigning all of the components to check how better additional support could be awarded for ‘Vocal for Local‘ and ‘Make for the World‘ because Indian agarbatti are much sought after in international markets.

National Bamboo Mission (NBM), Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and States, have collectively partnered with businesses and have stepped up full support to enable India to become Atma Nirbhar. The agarbatti industry will deliver back livelihoods to the regional communities while at the same time help modernizing the industry.

The agarbatti industry traditionally supplied large-scale employment into the local workforce, which dwindled due to different factors such as inexpensive imports of round rods and raw batti. NBM completed a thorough analysis in 2019. The authorities took policy steps for transferring raw batti imports from free to limited class in Aug 2019, thereby increasing export duty by 25% in June 2020.
